LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMEN
On behalf of the Ministry of Oil & Gas and the Organising Committee, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Oman and the World Heavy Oil Congress & Exhibition taking place from 3 – 5 September 2018 in Muscat.
Contributing to 15% of the Sultanate’s overall oil production, heavy oil plays an extremely important role in Oman’s oil and gas industry. Despite a challenging economic environment, Petroleum Development Oman is spearheading innovation and continuing to identify novel EOR techniques to maximise production from our four active heavy oil fields with particular focus on the Amal West field and the Miraah Solar plant, it is anticipated that by 2025 more than 23% of PDO’s production will come from EOR projects.
Hosted under the theme ‘Transforming the heavy oil value chain’, the World Heavy Oil Congress & Exhibition (WHOC) provides an invaluable platform for the global heavy oil industry to gather and learn from each other. On the Technical Conference, we received 336 papers from 41 countries each sharing an excellent perspective on heavy oil recovery, development, refining and marketing.
The Strategic Conference is led by CEOs and industry leaders sharing insights into the business of heavy oil. Covering 10 sessions across two days, the Strategic Conference will cover topics on investments, creating agile business models, collaboration between heavy oil producing countries, and unlocking refining potential and value chain performance.
Supporting the Technical & Strategic Conferences is an international exhibition where regional and international NOCs, IOCs, service and technology providers will showcase the best of technologies, products and services for the heavy oil sector.
The World Heavy Oil Congress & Exhibition is a collaboration hub that the global heavy oil community can return to every year. It is our pleasure to invite you to join us at this extremely important event. We look forward to welcoming you in Muscat this September.
