Stay tuned for information regarding courses which will be held in conjunction with World Heavy Oil Congress 2012. Courses offered at the 2011 Congress included:
Heavy Oil Recovery Methods
This course provided a general overview of current and emerging heavy oil recovery methods, SAGD and with emphasis on field experiences in Alberta. There were discussions on the concepts, field development, reservoir performances, applicability and challenges and issues.
Modern Heavy Oil Drilling, Completions and Production Monitoring Techniques
This course included drilling, completion and production engineers interested in gaining a broad general knowledge of the issues and challenges of heavy oil drilling, and the types of technology available to solve certain challenges. Topics addressed included drilling technologies, completion methods and production monitoring.
Reservoir Geomechanics in Thermal Operations
This course introduced the necessary fundamentals of geomechanics as applied to oil sands, effect of increased pressure and temperature on rock failure, wellbore stability, and reservoir-well-casing integrity. Special emphasis was placed on caprock integrity analysis, understanding ERCB expectations and geomechanics thermal coupled simulation.
SAGD Water Treatment Workshop
This one-day workshop covered all aspects of water treatment process for Steam Assisted Gravity Drain SAGD operations, from pre-treatment to ion exchange resin technology. Basic water chemistry, design theory, process operation, equipment design troubleshooting were presented based on the extensive design and operational experience of the instructors.
